Body of Message

In a message dated 22/01/2004 4:13:04 AM Pacific Standard Time, dodgem@paradise.net.nz writes: I believe the engine needs some work and has been stored for some time and would most likely need a full overhaul of the engine before it was used and probably brakes and bodywork repaired also. The auction details were a bit lacking i feel ?????? Asking a high price for a car that has serious problems that aren"t disclosed in the ad, and that you won"t find out about until it arrives from overseas? Damn straight it is lacking "details" - a car in that state, no matter how glossy it looks in photos, is worth close to nothing, not $35K, even if they are smaller NZ dollars. Why would anyone in their right mind not just go out and buy a restored car for far less than the combined price of this Espada plus the cost to restore it. I"ve had this discussion many times with people = if Car X is worth $30,000 once restored, and the cost to restore it is $25K, the value of the unrestored car is NOT $20K, it is $5K, notwithstanding the owner saying how much it will be worth when fixed up - they all seem to think that is a sales incentive rather than a strong incentive to go buy a better car. The Espada is probably a classic example of a car that costs way more to restore than it will ever be worth. I (wisely) walked away from one that had just had the paint donefor less than $10K - the rust underneath would have cost another 10K to do properly, and you still didn"t know where you were on engine and suspension condition. Unfortunately, it seemed that the owner had failed to ever put iot up on a hoist and LOOK at the underside....or so he said. Bill * * *
