Body of Message

Here"s the text from the auction catalogue; pictures will follow tomorrow-morning. Bonhams auction, Geneva, Monday 10 March 2003 Lot # 179 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 Coupé Chassis # 0589 Supplied new in Italy, this superbly presented example of Lamborghini"s classic front-engined Gran Turismo benefits from extensive restoration in the USA in the late 1970s and more recently (in the 1990s) while in the hands of its preceding and present German owners, the latter refurbishment costing some DM 120,000. The car is accompanied by a most substantial history file containing numerous bills dating back to 1978 as well as a detailed photographic record of the 1990s restoration which included a bare-metal repaint and consumed some 600-800 manhours. Other work carried out during this latter refurbishment included a rebuild of the cylinder heads, carburettors, ignition, suspension and brakes. Any bodywork defects were rectified, the chassis repainted in black and the coachwork in silver. New stainless-steel bumpers were fitted, the Borrani wire wheels rebuilt and all brightwork re-chromed by HBF, reputedly Germany"s finest practitioner. The interior retains its original black leather upholstery while benefiting from new headlining and Wilton carpets. Front and rear screens are new, as are the rubber seals, decals and "Touring" badges. The engine compartment is freshly detailed. As featured in Motor Klassik magazine, the car is accompanied by the relevant article and old US title deed. A truly impressive early Lamborghini offering excellent value. Estimate: SFr 120,000 - 140,000 Marcel
