Alfa 166 Maintenance Tips - Air Filter Change

Ait Filter Change...

Here's the parts & tools you need...

10mm ring or open ended spanner

Pozidrive or Phillips Screwdiver

New Filter (Alfa Romeo #? or JR R105255 (like K&N) re-usable)

1. remove the plastic covers around the engine (3)...

2. Use the 10mm spanner to remove the steel bracket (shown rusty brown in step1)

3. extract the pipe coming from the upper part of the housing (remembering to disconnect the 5 pin electrical connector to allow it to come all the way up)

4.remove the 4 screws from the top of the air filter housing, and remove the lid

5. remove the filter top cover and take out the filter.

6. assembly is the reverse of disassembly, but its best to take out the seal from the lid and fit to the pipe, before putting the pipe back.

You can purchase a K&N type re-usable filter than may have better airflow, but requires oiling every 6000 miles.

Note: It is important only to oil the outside of the filter, as otherwise the oil can coat the inside of the Air Flow Meter, and cause eractic engine performance.
